Bulls Bounce RoadRunners 5-1

AMARILLO, TX – One of the strong points of the Amarillo Bulls game this season has been their play on home ice at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Bulls evened their record on home ice after a 5-1 triumph over the Topeka RoadRunners in front of a crowd of better than 3,000 fans. It was the Bulls fifth win in eight Friday night games and second in a row at home versus the rival RoadRunners.

Austin O’Rourke, Nikita Sokolov, Jason Brancheau, Nick Griebenow and Trey Bagwell scored for the Bulls, while Jason Grande turned aside 31 of 32 shots to post the win in goal. Grande made his 44 appearance in net to tie Paul Berrafato for 2nd all time in Bulls history.

Amarillo certainly brought it’s ‘A’ game in the opening 20 minutes striking for two goals and firing 22 shots on goal. Austin O’Rourke got the Bulls on the board when he fired a shot past the skate of goaltender Sam Metcalf with help from Gleb Murtazin and Brendan Datema. Later in the period, Nikita Sokolov potted his third of the year when he launched a puck over the shoulder of Metcalf. Trey Bagwell and Nick Stuckless added helpers on the play.

Topeka came out much stronger in the second period and tried to climb back in the game but was denied by goaltender Jason Grande. The Bulls added to their lead when Jason Brancheau scored on a great second effort from Brett Abdelnour and Brendon Michaelian. Three minutes later, Nick Griebenow scored on a wraparound from Josh DeLuca, and Marcus Chorney. The RoadRunners outshot the Bulls 17-14 in the second period.

The third period was a see-saw affair with teams trading scoring opportunities. The RoadRunners broke up the shutout bid of goaltender Jason Grande as Michael Muschitiello scored on a hard shot from inside the blueline. The Bulls rounded out the scoring when Trey Bagwell scored from Nick Anderson and Nick Stuckless.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Topeka RoadRunners 47-32. There were six combined power plays with the Bulls scoring the lone goal.

There is one final home game left of the regular season for the Amarillo Bulls as they host the Topeka RoadRunners tomorrow night at 7 at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. It’s Fan and Child Appreciation Night with great giveaways. The first 500 Children 12 and under through the doors will receive a youth replica jersey, while Team Pictures will also be handed out to fans. There will be 300 free hot dogs handed out to fans.
