ODESSA, TX – The Amarillo Bulls set another great bench mark in the team’s short four year history.
The Bulls assured themselves of a fourth straight year of 30 plus wins after they waxed the Odessa Jackalopes 8-0 on Saturday night at Ector County Coliseum. Collin Delia stopped all 19 shots he faced for his sixth shutout of the season. The Bulls still lead the South Division by 10 points over second place Topeka. In the race for the overall lead in the NAHL, Amarillo and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs are tied for first place.
It was a dominating performance by the Amarillo Bulls from puck drop, controlling much of play at both ends of the rink and capitalizing on their opportunities.
Seven different goal scorers paced the Bulls in the contest with goals coming off the sticks of Brady Ferguson, Cody Gylling, Ben Jentsch, Mike Davis, Mitchell McPherson, Tim Moore, Matt Sieckhaus and Brendan Vetter. Ferguson, Vetter and Patrick Pollock each had two helpers.
A sizzling first period by the Amarillo Bulls set the tone for the entire night. The Bulls had redemption on their minds after a tough effort on Friday night. The Bulls came out buzzing early and often. Brady Ferguson got the Bulls rolling three minutes into the game when he scored off a sharp-angled shot from Kyle Gattelaro and Mitchell McPherson. Two minutes the Bulls added to their lead when Cody Gylling scored from Ryan Stevens.
The offence continued for Amarillo as Bench Jentsch’s shot snuck through from Tim Moore and Brady Ferguson. Near the end of the stanza the Bulls made it 4-0 on a terrific individual effort from Mike Davis who broke through the defense the put the puck upstairs from Brendan McGuire at 15-:08. The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Jackalopes 19-8 in the first period.
The second period was all Amarillo again as the Bulls added to their lead with two more markers. Mitchell McPherson scored on a play in front of the net from Patrick Pollock and Cody Gylling at 5:16. Two minutes later Tim Moore scored his second of the contest from Brady Fergsuon and Brendan Vetter to make it 6-0. The Bulls outshot the Jackalopes 15-8 in the middle stanza.
Two more goals rounded out the scoring in the third period. Matt Sieckhaus scored on a shot from the far face-off circle at 1:49 from Brendan Vetter and Patrick Pollock. A short time later Brendan Vetter scored the eighth goal for the Bulls, on another shot from distance from Matt Sieckhaus.
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Odessa Jackalopes 7-3 in the third period and 41-19 overall. Special teams were the story for the Bulls as they connected on three power play goals in nine opportunities, while their penalty killing kept the slate clean.
One more game remains between the Bulls and the Jackalopes and it takes place on Sunday at 6 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
