WICHITA FALLS, TX – The Amarillo Bulls were back on their heels right from puck drop by an engaged Wichita Falls Wildcat team on Friday night at Kay Yeager Coliseum. The Wildcats tallied all of their offense in the first 30 minutes of the game and then beat the Bulls 3-0 to snap their short two game win streak.
Goaltender Nikita Babintsev did his best to keep the Bulls in the game with timely saves as he faced 39 shots. One of the Bulls best chances to break the shutout was in the third period as Eric Cooley was left alone but was stopped by goaltender George McBey who stopped all 23 shots that came his way for his second NAHL win.
The Wildcats raced out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first period as Ryan Orgel’s shot from the point went off the glove of goaltender Babintsev and was lying in the goal crease. Jeff Skinner found the loose puck and pushed it across the goal line.
One of the Bulls strength’s during the game was the penalty killing as the Wildcats failed to score on three opportunities, including a five minute power play late in the first period to Matt Nehls for kneeing.
Early in the second period, the Wildcats extended their lead to 2-0 when Ricky Carballo shot just barely crossed the goal line. Seven minutes later, the home side added their third and final goal as Ryan Burnett’s shot just made it past goaltender Babintsev.
The combination of George Mika and Nestor Plarsmo missed on a great chance to score for the Bulls later in the period as Plarsmo’s attempt was stopped by McBey.
The visiting Bulls got their game rolling in the third period and it was fueled by three power play opportunities. Marcus Chorney was left alone in the high slot but his shot sailed over the net and into the glass. Later Luke Edgerton sent a pass over to Eric Cooley who was denied from scoring.
The Wichita Falls Wildcats outshot the Amarillo Bulls 39-23 including 12-6 in the third period.
