AMARILLO, TX – The offense of the Amarillo Bulls has been running on empty producing just two goals in each of the last two games, and that lack of run support continued on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
The Bulls fired 37 shots on goal, including 18 alone in the third period but failed to find the back of the net and dropped a 2-0 decision to the Shreveport Mudbugs. It was Amarillo’s third loss in a row and fourth in the last five games.
Shreveport connected on the game’s first goal just 41 seconds into the contest when Kieran Durgan sliced through the Bulls zone and slipped one past the goal line behind Nikita Babintsev who pulled away from the goal post to allow the player to score. After that it was all Bulls as they fired 11 shots at goaltender John Roberts who stopped Phil Fromberger, Eric Cooley and later Luke Edgerton. Amarillo outshot the Mudbugs 11-9 in the first period.
The second stanza started with a frantic pace between the two teams and the Mudbugs were able to get their second and final goal when the Bulls failed to clear the puck from their zone. Croix Evingson’s shot went off the post and into the net. Charlie Singerhouse nearly got the Bulls on the board when he stole the puck from the blueline and raced in on a partial breakaway but only to be turned away by the goaltender. Shreveport outshot Amarillo 13-8 in the period.
It was all Amarillo in the final 20 minutes with constant pressure on the visitor’s net. Forward George Mika was left alone on a play in front of the net but his shot went off the goaltender’s stick and wide. Nestor Plaarsmo were also stopped by the rookie goaltender on great scoring chances. The Bulls pulled in their goaltender looking to climb back into the game but were successful.
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Shreveport Mudbugs 37-29. Special teams were great for both teams as they failed to score on a combined six attempts.
