BLAINE, MN – The Amarillo Bulls hope to continue their run of success at the North American Hockey League Showcase in Blaine Minnesota (near northwest of Minneapolis) when they open up their schedule tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday) at the Schwann Super Rink.
The Bulls have posted a record of 13-10-4 in seven previous trips to the Showcase that is one of the highlights on the league’s schedule. Overall, the Bulls have lost just once seven previous first day games
Up first for Rocky Russo’s charges is the unbeaten Wilkes-Bare/Scranton Knights who are coming off a pair of victories in their first two regular season games. The Bulls for their part began the season with a 5-3 triumph in their home opener last Saturday versus the Odessa Jackalopes.
Forward Alex Peterson led the Bulls attack with a pair of goals and was recognized by the NAHL by receiving 2nd star honors in the South Division. Jason Grande posted the win in goal.
The Knights are in just their 2nd season in the circuit and posted 65 points good for fourth place in the East Division. In the playoffs Wilkes-Bare/Scranton lost to the Aston Rebels.
One of the many unique things about the NAHL Showcase that makes it such an incredible event for all of the participants is that teams play four games over four consecutive days at various times ranging from early morning to mid afternoon and evening. Amarillo Bulls Head Coach Rocky Russo says the Showcase is very special.
“The Showcase is a unique event challenging players both physically and mentally,” said Russo. “However, the exposure over the four days rivals no other event in North America and makes the challenge worth it.”
On Thursday at the Showcase the Bulls meet the Minnesota Wilderness at 5:30 pm with pre-game coverage set to start at 5:05 pm. Amarillo then has a date with the Bismarck Bobcats at 7 pm on Friday (pre-game at 6:40 pm) followed by the Northeast Generals on Saturday at 12:45 pm.
All 23 teams will play regular season games at this event that allows players to be seen by not only NCAA Scouts, but NHL and other junior teams.
The NAHL Showcase plays a big role in helping players securing NCAA commitments. Dozens of layers each season earn an NCAA Division I opportunity during and following their participation in the event. The NAHL Showcase attracts over 9,000 people in overall attendance, including more than 350 professional, college and junior scouts. For scouting purposes, the NAHL Showcase is the premier event of its kind and is a yearly gathering for every NCAA program and NHL team as they get their first look at some of the best and brightest hockey talent North America has to offer.
Fans can tune into tomorrow’s game live on CBS Sports Radio 1440, online at www.amarillobulls.com and on PPV with Hockey TV, beginning with the Warm Up Show at 12:50 pm. Denis J. Puska has the hard hitting action to follow.
