Bulls Announce Moves

AMARILLO, TX – When the Amarillo Bulls begin the second half of the season their offence will get a much needed boost.

The Bulls announced that forward Tyler Gernhofer will return to the team for the remainder of the season. He will be in the line-up tomorrow night, New Year’s Eve, when the Bulls host the Wichita Falls Wildcats at 7 pm.

Head Coach Matt Nicholson is thrilled to have the addition of Gernhofer to the line-up.

“Anytime you have the opportunity welcome a big weapon like that to your line-up, you are going to receive him with open arms,” said Nicholson.  “If you ask him, he probably played his best hockey here in Amarillo and we are trying to get him back to that level. He will be able to round out his game and return to Vermont’s campus.”

Nicholson said that one thing Gernhofer is noted for is that great shot.

“He has a wicked release and with the 14 one-goal games we have had this year – he will definitely help tip the scale in our favor,” he added.

In 103 NAHL games, the Grapevine Texas native had 40 goals and 39 assists for 70 points, including 31 in the 2013-14 campaign. Gernhofer played both in Bloomington and Cedar Rapids in the USHL last year.

When Nicholson was coaching at Robert Morris University, he remembered Gernhofer and the strong player that he was.

“We looked at him and several players at that time because of the history we have of recruiting the Bulls,” he recalled. “The biggest thing about Tyler is that he is a game changer. You may not notice him a lot but then all of a sudden, he pots a goal or two. If you give him two or three feet, and as long he gets his stick on it, then it can go into the back of the net. Goaltenders are going to be really surprised how hard he shoots the puck. With Tyler, sometimes it’s not the velocity but the quickness of his release.”

Meantime, the Bulls also announced they have traded forward Johan Lundgren to the Lone Star Brahmas for a Tender and two Draft Picks, 2nd round and a fourth round.

In 32 games for the Bulls, Lundgren had 9 goals and 12 assists for 21 points. He had two power play goals.

As well, defenseman Jake Houston has been picked up by the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the United States Hockey League for the remainder of the season. Houston had one goal and 12 assists for 13 points in 26 games for the Bulls.

Don’t miss what has become an Amarillo Sports Tradition as on New Year’s Eve the Bulls host the Wichita Falls Wildcats. The game is set for 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Bulls are offering a special retro ticket promotion of $5, $7, and $9 tickets depending where fans want to sit. There is also a free child’s ticket with the purchase of an adult and $1 Hot Dogs. Glow Sticks and party favors will be handed out to fans at the door.
