Bulls Alumni Notebook-Goalies Debut

AMARILLO, TX – Two goaltenders that lifted the Amarillo Bulls to the 2013 Robertson Cup National Championship made their NCAA debuts over the weekend.

Collin Delia made his first collegiate start, while Oaul Berrafato came on in relief in their respective games.

Delia started for Merrimack College on Saturday night as they faced the Mercyhurst Lakers. Delia turned aside 19 of 22 shots he faced but Merrimack lost 3-2 to the Lakers. Hampus Gustafsson notched his second assist of the weekend for Merrimack. He and his brother John each set up a goal on Friday night as Merrimack edged Mercyhurst 5-4 in overtime.

Berrafato who is in his first season at Holy Cross came on in relief of starter Matt Ginn as the Crusaders fell to Penn State 7-1. It was Holy Cross’ second loss of the weekend as they were beaten Penn State 3-1 on Friday. Ricky DeRosa had a goal and two assists over the weekend.

Six Bulls Alumni combined saw action as Robert Morris and Army faced one another and several figured in the scoring. Brady Ferguson scored his second goal of the season on Friday night, while Greg Gibson grabbed an assist as the Colonials remained unbeaten blanking Army 3-0. The following night the teams played to a 3-3 overtime tie. John Rey had a helper for Robert Morris, while Clint Carlisle had one West Point.

Matt Johson set up his team’s second goal of the game but Lake Superior State fell to Northern Michigan 4-2. Roman Ammirato picked up an assist as Union defeated St. Cloud State 5-1.

            Cody Freeman scored twice and assisted on another as Canisius College doubled American 4-2. Defenseman Brandon Lubin earned an assist for American in the loss.

          Tyler Deresky got an assist for Bentley as they turned back Rensselaer 4-0.

          This weekend the NCAA Division III season faces off with a variety of Bulls Alumni seeing action including Derek Hills (St. Scholastica), Brent Roubos (Lawrence University), Gage Christianson and Dan Scherer (Milwaukee School of Engineering), Dan McNamara (St. John’s), Dan McDougall and Mike Davis (Neumann), and Ryan Taylor (Western New England).

          Meantime, it’s the conclusion of a seven game home stand for the Amarillo Bulls this weekend at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center when they host the Topeka RoadRunners at 7 pm. On Halloween Friday, fans are invited to dress up in their favorite costume and come Trick-Or-Treating on the concourse prior to the game.
