AMARILLO, TX – It was a light schedule for the Amarillo Bulls Alumni in NCAA play with just a handful of players seeing action.
Forward Greg Gibson fired the fifth goal early in the third period to help Robert Morris University tie Mercyhurst Lakers 5-5 in Erie, PA. It was Gibson’s third goal of the season and sixth point.
Niagara University and RIT took to the ice outdoors at Frontier Field in Rochester NY. That game was part of the many activities planned at the first outdoor game of the hockey season. Niagara and RIT battled to a 2-2 overtime tie. Several other Bulls Alumni will venture outdoors for games at Fenway Park in January, including Tyler Deresky at Bentley and Ryan Cole, Sam Johnson, TJ Sherman from Trinity College.
Derek Hills, who was the Bulls’ captain in their inaugural season, is off to a great start with the St. Scholastica Saints located in Duluth, Mn. Hills notched his second goal in the last three games to help the Saints tie St. John’s 2-2. Hills has two goals and three assists for five points in 13 games for St. Scholastica.
The current Amarillo Bulls are excited to be back on home ice and begin an eight game stretch at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center this Friday and Saturday against the Wichita Falls Wildcats. The face-off for both games is set for 7 pm. On Friday, Santa Claus will make his appearance at the game and fans can get a picture with him prior to face-off.
On Saturday, it’s the annual Toys for Tots Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear or Stuffed Animal to the Game, when the Bulls score their first goal throw the toys onto the ice. The Teddy Bears and Stuffed Animals will be collected and given to the Toys for Tots program.
