AMARILLO, TX – Robert Morris University collected three points over the weekend in NCAA Division I action, and it was the play of two Amarillo Bulls Alumni that helped them in those contests.
Greg Gibson scored twice and John Rey earned an assist as the Colonials beat American International 5-2. Gibson scored the game’s first goal late in the first period from John Rey, and then added the fifth goal into an empty net.
In the Friday game, Gibson and Rey each collected an assist as Robert Morris and American International played to a 4-4 tie.
Forward TJ Sarcona scored in Niagara University’s 4-2 loss to Holy Cross. Despite Lake Superior State losing a pair to Notre Dame, forward Matt Johnson had a productive second game. Johnson scored the second Lakers goal in a 4-2 loss to the Fighting Irish.
Several Bulls’ Alumni got involved in the offence for Army in a 4-3 loss to RIT. Joe Kozlak picked up a goal and an assist, while Clint Carlisle also found the back of the net on a scoring play from Luke Jenkins.
Over in Division III Ryan Cole continues to have an outstanding year for the Trinity College Bantams. In their first game of the weekend Cole potted a goal and earned an assist in a 5-1 win over Bowdoin. The following night, he netted a hattrick as Trinity doubled Colby 6-3. Sam Johnson picked up an assist in the contest.
Cole is third in the scoring race with 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points but trials first by just three points. His 17 assists are tied for 2nd in Division III scoring.
Two Bulls’ Alumni who were on the National Championship team last year went head to head as the Milwaukee School of Engineering faced Lawrence University. Gage Christianson got the best of Blake Roubos as Milwaukee took both games 1-0 and 4-1. Gage Christianson assisted on a goal in the second game.
Forward Mike Erickson is having a solid season for his new school St. Olaf. Erickson notched a goal in his school’s 5-0 win over Hamline. Defenseman Dan McDougall tallied for Neumann in a 4-1 non-conference loss to Geneseo.
The current members of the Amarillo Bulls hit the ice for a trio of games against the Odessa Jackalopes this weekend. On Friday and Saturday the Bulls and the Jacks will face one another at Ector County Coliseum in Odessa at 7:17 pm. On Sunday the Bulls will host the Jackalopes at 6 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. It’s Faith and Family Fun Night courtesy of the Polk Street Methodist Church.
