Behling Named To Hockey East All-Academic

PROVIDENCE, RI – An Amarillo Bulls Alumni has been named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team.

          Providence Friars forward Brooks Behling along with five of his teammates were named to the 2013 team announced by Hockey East.  To be named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must achieve a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during which he was actively competing. All told, 99 players were named to the 2013 Hockey East All-Academic Team.

          The Friars earning the honor include recent graduates Myles Harvey (Orlando, Fla.) and Kyle Murphy (Fairhaven, N.J.), junior Steven Shamanski (Carberry, Manitoba) as well as the freshman trio of Brooks Behling (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Steven McParland (Schreiber, Ontario) and Dylan Wells (Nashville, Tenn.).

Behling (3.62 GPA) and Wells (3.53 GPA) saw limited action during their freshmen seasons. Behling made his Friar debut at Minnesota State on January 5th.

Behling was a member of the Bulls 2010-2011 and 2011-2013 clubs that both advanced to the Robertson Cup National Championship Tournaments. Behling, who was acquired mid-season by the Bulls in 2010-2011, notched seven goals and five assists for 12 points in 33 games. The following campaign saw Behling lead the team in scoring with 37 goals and 38 assists for 75 points in 57 games. He had seven power play goals, another five were notched shorthanded and an additional eight were game winners.

That season Behling as also awarded for his hard work in the community by being named the North American Hockey League's Community Service Award Winner.
