Weekend Preview-Bulls Welcome Shreveport To Amarillo

PROMOTIONS: Friday is the arrival of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and the return of the Family Four Pack for $44 (four tickets, four hotdogs and four sodas) and the Bring A Bud Pack for $22 (two tickets, two hotdogs and two sodas).

Saturday is the Toys For Tots Teddy Bear Toss Presented By Brown Automotive Group. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear or Stuffed Animal to the game and when the Bulls score their first goal, throw the toys onto the ice in support of the great cause.

THE SERIES: This is the first of four in a row between the Amarillo Bulls and the Shreveport Mudbugs. The two teams will then play one another next Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at George’s Pond Hirsch Coliseum. There will be a total of eight meetings between them, including an additional four at the end of January and February.

HISTORICAL NUMBERS: The Amarillo Bulls and the Shreveport Mudbugs met a total of 10 times last season with the Bulls posting a total of five points — one win, one overtime and two shootout losses. Nine of the 10 games were decided by one goal or less.

BULLS NEWS: The Amarillo Bulls have acquired forward Billy Duma from the Coulee Region Chill in exchange for forward Collin Price. Duma, who is committed to Air Force Academy, has six goals and seven assists for 13 points in 19 games. Last year, with the Chill, the 6-0 170-pound forward had eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 48 games. He picked up two power play goals and one game winner. Price, a native of North Ridgeville, Ohio arrived in the Texas Panhandle in January of last season. In 44 combined games with the Bulls, the 6-0, 190 pound forward had nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points.

BULLS ADD TO LEADERSHIP GROUP: Defenseman Brendan Michaelian was named as an alternate captain with the Amarillo Bulls joining forward Jon Russell and defenseman Marcus Chorney and captain Alex Truscott.

WALL-TO-WALL HOCKEY THIS WEEKEND: For the first time in many years there will be lots of wall-to-wall hockey at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. Circled around the Amarillo Bulls games is the 2017 Amarillo Youth Stampede Challenge featuring 20 teams from Odessa, El Paso and Oklahoma City age groups Mites, Mini-Mites, Peewees, Junior Varsity and Varsity.

WHAT IS AT STAKE: The Amarillo Bulls head into this weekend’s action tied with the Odessa Jackalopes for third place in the South Division. The bulls are seven back of second place Lone Star but just three ahead of the Corpus Christi IceRays. The Shreveport Mudbugs lead the division with 38 points and 17 wins and haven’t had a regulation loss in their last 10 games (7-0-2-1).

ACROSS THE SOUTH: There are two other games in the South Division this weekend as the Corpus Christi Icerays visit the Lone Star Brahmas at NYTEX Sports Center in North Richland Hills, while the Topeka RoadRunners entertain the Odessa Jackalopes at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena.
