TOPEKA, KS – The Amarillo Bulls hope to conclude their weekend of action in the same position where they started. That’s in first overall in the NAHL, and first in the South Division.
It won’t be easy for the Bulls to remain at the top of the table as they start a two-game series with the Topeka RoadRunners at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena. The face-off for tonight’s (Friday) and tomorrow night’s (Saturday) games are set for 7 pm.
The Bulls vaulted into first place after collecting six points with victories over the Odessa Jackalopes, twice, and the Wichita Falls Wildcats on home ice. The RoadRunners are coming off a split with the Springfield Jr. Blues that included a 3-2 loss.
Amarillo and Topeka have already met a total of four times with each team winning twice. Home ice has also not been an issue either as the road teams have each collected a win. Omar Mullan and Gage Christianson each have four points for the Bulls in the series. Mullan has picked up two goals and two assists, while Christianson has a goal and three assists.
Kyle Sharkey and Sean Gaffney each have nine points for Topeka in the series. Sharkey has four goals, while Gaffney has seven helpers. It is also interesting to note that there hasn’t been a lot of offense scored in the series. The two teams have combined for just 25 goals, with the Bulls outscoring the RoadRunners 13-12. Nine of the 25 goals have been scored via the power play and none of them shorthanded.
The Amarillo Bulls remain first and second overall in goals for and against, as well as shots for and against. The RoadRunners are sixth in goals for and 2nd in goals against, while they are 4th in shots against but 14th in shots for.
Fans can tune into both games live on ESPN1440, www.amarillobulls.com and on Pay-Per-View Courtesy of Fast Hockey, beginning with The Bulls Warm Up Show and Denis J. Puska at 6:45 pm. The puck drop follows at 7 pm.
Hockey is back at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center on Friday, Dec. 28 and Saturday, Dec. 28 when the Amarillo Bulls host the Odessa Jackalopes at 7 pm. A busy schedule of holiday hockey concludes with the 2nd annual New Years’ Eve game as the Bulls host the Wichita Falls Wildcats at 7 pm.
