THE SERIES: This represents the 11th and 12th meetings of the season between the Amarillo Bulls and the Topeka RoadRunners. The Bulls have a 6-2-2 mark in the season series, including 4-1-1 in the last six meetings. Forward Ryan Cole leads all Bulls with four goals and five assists for nine points. Cole has two power play goals, two game winners and one first goal. Omar Mullan and Mike Davis also have four goals each, while John Rey has contributed seven assists. Goaltender Paul Berrafato is 4-2-2 with a 2.18 GAA in eight games. The top point getter on the RoadRunners is Sean Gaffney with four goals and 10 assists for 14 points. Forward Kyle Sharkey has earned six goals and goaltender Spencer Viele has three wins.
WEEKEND REWIND: The Amarillo Bulls are coming off a four game in five days road trip that saw them post a 3-1 mark. In the first game the Bulls fell 4-1 in Corpus Christi, but then rebounded to beat the IceRays 5-1. Amarillo then moved on to Odessa and posted two more wins 6-1 and 7-0.
After winning seven games in a row, the Topeka RoadRunners suffered back-to-back loses at the hands of the Wichita Falls Wildcats on home ice at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena. In the first game, Topeka surrendered four consecutive goals and lost 4-1. In the second game, the Wildcats rallied with three in the third including the game winner with eight seconds remaining to post a 4-3 victory.
SOUTH DIVISON UPDATE: It’s a 14 point lead that the Amarillo Bulls enjoy over the Topeka RoadRunners for first place in the South Division. The RoadRunners have a game in hand on the Bulls with just nine games remaining on their schedule compared to eight for Amarillo. The Texas Tornado sits in third place five back of Topeka for home ice. The Tornado, which has lost eight in a row, visits the Odessa Jackalopes for two games. There could be some serious implications on the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division as the Corpus Christi IceRays entertain the Wichita Falls Wildcats. Corpus Christi has a three point lead over the fourth spot, but the Wildcats are hot with a four game winning streak.
OVERALL UPDATE: In the race for the overall NAHL regular season title, the Amarillo Bulls enjoy a four point cushion on second place Austin Bruins. Each team has eight games remaining in their schedule. Austin visits Coulee Region this weekend.
