PRO STYLE WEEKEND: For the first time in several years the Amarillo Bulls will play a pro-style format weekend facing two different opponents. With the changing landscape of minor league sports, many teams choose to play the same opponent twice as a cost saving measure. This road trip has the Amarillo Bulls facing two opponents separated by less than two hours of drive time.
BROADCAST OPTIONS: Fans can tune into the action of both games this weekend. On Friday the Wayland Baptist University Warm Up Show begins at 6:40 pm followed by the Bulls the Wildcats, while on Saturday broadcast coverage starts at 7:10 pm prior to puck drop between Amarillo and the Lone Star Brahmas. Games air live on CBS Sports Radio 1440, online at www.amarillobulls.com and on PPV with Fast Hockey (Hockey TV).
THE SERIES: The Amarillo Bulls and the Wichita Falls Wildcats will meet for the 2nd time this season on Friday night. The two met on opening night with the Bulls winning the contest 3-2 in overtime when Kosta Likourezos scored on a penalty shot. On Saturday night the Amarillo Bulls travel to face the Lone Star Brahmas at NYTEX Sports Center. The two teams met once earlier in the season with Lone Star coming up victorious by a decisive score. The Bulls and the Brahmas have a lot of hockey against one another ahead in the next 10 days, facing one another a total of four times including three back in Amarillo starting next Friday, Oct. 14.
BULLS NEXT HOME: After this weekend, the Amarillo Bulls return back at home for a big stretch of seven straight at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. Fans will see the Lone Star Brahmas (3), the Wichita Falls Wildcats (2) and the Corpus Christi IceRays (2) starting Friday, Oct. 14 and concluding Saturday, Nov. 5
ACROSS THE SOUTH THIS WEKEEND: All South Division teams will see action this weekend as the Corpus Christi IceRays are facing the Topeka RoadRunners for three at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena. The Odessa Jackalopes make their first trip to Shreveport to face the Mudbugs.
BULLS NEWS AND NOTES: The Amarillo Bulls are one and two in the scoring in the North American Hockey League through the first month of play. Forward Kosta Likourezos leads with 14 points (8 goals, and 6 assists), followed by George Mika at 13 points (5 goals and 8 assists). Goaltender Nikita Babintsev is 2nd in the NAHL with four wins, and fifth in saves. The Bulls have the best power play in the NAHL and in the middle of the pack for penalty killing.
MIKA NAHL FORWARD OF THE MONTH: Amarillo Bulls forward George Mika was chosen as the NAHL Forward of the Month Presented by Bauer. The native of Naples, Florida, finished with 5 goals and 8 assists and a +4 rating in 8 games during the month. Mika (5’11/181) had a five-game point streak during the month, which included 7 points at the NAHL Showcase as the Bulls went 3-0-1 at the event. 2016-17 marks his third year playing in the NAHL. In 83 career NAHL games, he has recorded 60 points.
