AMARILLO, TX – There are many new faces in the Amarillo Bulls Coaching Staff this season. The latest addition is Mission, TX native Steven Smith who has taken over as Equipment manager replacing Chris Schornack who has moved on to the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL.
Smith most recently served as equipment manager for the Wichita Thunder of the ECHL during the 2015-16 season, and Assistant Equipment Manager with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in 2014-15. He first began as a stick boy back in 2003 with the Killer Bees when they were a member of the former Central Hockey League.
“I’m excited to be back in the South Division working with a great coaching staff, front office and prestigious organization,” said Smith. “Staying home in Texas with the Bulls was an easy decision to make.”
Smith joins Riho Okamura who was announced yesterday as the Bulls new Athletic Trainer.
Bulls Head Coach Rocky Russo said he’s pleased to add Smith to the staff.
“We are happy to have Steven join us,” said Russo. “He has experience at both the pro and junior hockey ranks. We expect that he will bring a level of professionalism and preparation on a daily basis that will allow our players to be at their best.”
In six days, the Amarillo Bulls will face off their 8th home opener in the North American Hockey League. The Bulls entertain the rival Odessa Jackalopes on Saturday at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center at 7 pm. The game is sponsored by High Country Chevy and Cadillac Dealers at I-40 and Coulter. Magnet schedules will be given away at the door.
