Showcase Schedule Released

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls learned today (Monday) who their four opponents will be at the 2015 North American Hockey League Showcase that will take place in Blaine, Minnesota (near Minneapolis)f rom Wednesday, Sept. 23 to Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Schwann Super Rink.

Three of the opponents will face the Bulls for first-ever meetings, while a fourth team matches up for just the second time.

The Bulls open up the Showcase on Wednesday, Sept. 23 against the Coulee Region Chill at 7:30 pm. The two teams met at the Showcase during the 2011-2012  season with the Bulls falling in a shootout to the Chill. In that particular Showcase, the Bulls had entered the final day with an unbeaten record of 3-0 before that set back.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, the Bulls match-up against the defending National Champion Minnesota Wilderness at 1:30 pm. It will mark the 2nd straight year that the Bulls face a defending champion, and the second time in as many years where former Robertson Cup winners go head-to-head.

In Day 3 of the event, on Friday, Sept. 25 the Bulls face the Minot Minotauros for the first time ever at 1:30 pm.

The Bulls wrap up the showcase on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 9 am with a date against the expansion Aston Rebels, formerly the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

Three of the four Bulls games will take place at Schwan Rink No. 4, while the last one faces off in Schwann Rink No.2.

Last season, the Bulls finished the showcase at 2-1-1 and have never had a losing record at the event.

          All 22 NAHL teams will play four regular-season games at the Showcase. For scouting purposes, the NAHL Showcase is the premier event of its kind and is a yearly gathering for every NCAA program and NHL team as they get their first look at some of the best and brightest hockey talent North America has to offer.  Last season over 330 NHL, NCAA and junior scouts attended the event.           In addition, all 44 NAHL Showcase games will be broadcast live through FASTHockey, the official broadcast provider of the NAHL. Radio broadcast coverage of the Bulls four games at the Showcase will be announced at a later date.

          The Schwan Super Rink is the largest ice arena of its kind in the world. The state-of-the-art facility, a $21 million project totaling over 300,000 square feet, features eight sheets of ice under one roof. With all its varied amenities and services, the Schwan Super Rink is unique in the world of ice sport facilities.

          It will be the first event of the season for the NAPHL, which will also be played in conjunction with the Showcase. Now entering its seventh season, the NAPHL is made up of 40 teams: 20 Midget Major (18U) and 20 Midget Minor (16U) that compete at the Tier I youth level.

          The event will also feature eight additional teams from the Upper Midwest High School Elite League (UMHSEL) and 12 teams from the Tier I High Performance Hockey League (HPHL).

          This marks the fourth straight Showcase in which the NAHL has partnered with the Upper Midwest High School Elite League.  At the Showcase, the Elite League will feature eight total teams. It also marks the third straight Showcase that the NAHL has partnered with the High Performance Hockey League. The partnerships between the NAHL and the Elite League and the HPHL further enhances the Showcase since all see numerous players commit to NCAA programs each season.

          The Amarillo Bulls face off their 6th season in the North American Hockey League in 40 days (Saturday, Sept. 12) when they host the Odessa Jackalopes at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
