AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls, proud members of the North American Hockey League added some size to their defense on Wednesday afternoon by acquiring Sam Johnson from the Wenatchee Wild.
Johnson has played in 34 games for the Wild where he netted one goal and added nine assists for 10 points and 37 penalty minutes. Six of Johnson’s nine assists have come on the power play. The 6 ft, 1 inch, 195 pound native of Dallas Texas has also fired 37 shots on goal.
“We are at a stage where we are contending for the Robertson Cup and we thought bringing in a player like Sam will add more depth to the back end,” said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams “I like to carry eight defenseman during the playoff run and right now we are at seven. We hope he can contribute right away and give us the edge that we need.”
Williams said that Johnson is excited about coming to Amarillo and playing in his own state.
“He is from Dallas and played with Clint Carlisle, and comes from the organization where our other tender Cody Rogers is from,” Williams added. “I think that it’s important that people know we have great hockey players right here in the State of Texas. It’s only his first year of junior hockey but he has been playing for a good coach, John Becanic (in Wenatchee), for a team that has done a pretty good job on the defensive side of the puck.”
