AMARILLO, TX – An Amarillo Bulls forward is getting a once and a life-time opportunity to play for his country.
Forward Richie Marenis is playing for Latvia at World Junior Hockey Under 20 Exhibition Games in Austria starting tomorrow against the host Austrian Under 20 squad. In the second day of the schedule, Latvia will take on Denmark Under 20 National Team.
Latvia has already pre-qualified for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championships in Russia starting December 26th. The championship is regarded as one of the best hockey events of the year featuring some of the top junior players from around the world including those that are on the NHL watch list. Canada, Russia, United States typically dominate the championship and contend for the gold medal.
In eight games with the Bulls, Marenis has one goal, 17 penalty minutes and 15 shots on goal.
The Amarillo Bulls hit the road for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday against their rival Topeka RoadRunners at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena. Both games face off at 7 pm.
