NAHL Releases Robertson Cup Schedule

FRISCO, TX – The North American Hockey League released the schedule today (Monday) for the 2012 Robertson Cup National Championship Tournament that will get underway Thursday at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.

The Amarillo Bulls are one of six teams in the tournament that includes the defending national champion Fairbanks Ice Dogs, Port Huron Fighting Falcons, Bismarck Bobcats, the St. Louis Bandits and the host Texas Tornado. The teams are split into two pools of three with the pools crossing over to face one another in round-robin action. The Bulls are in the same pool with the Bandits and the Fighting Falcons.

The tournament faces off for the Bulls on Thursday at 7:30 pm with a game against their South Division rival the Texas Tornado. The two teams met a total of eight times during the regular season with the Bulls having a 5-3 edge. Fans can tune into the game live on ESPN1440 and www.amarillobulls.com, beginning with Prelude To the Robertson Cup Presented By Wayland Baptist University at 7:15 pm. Denis J. Puska will have the puck drop to follow at 7:30 pm.

On Day 2, the Bulls have a rematch against the defending National Champion Fairbanks Ice Dogs at 3:30 pm. The two teams met during the round robin portion of the tournament last year in Topeka Kansas that Fairbanks won in a tight affair 2-1. Broadcast coverage begins at 3:15 pm with the pre-game show, and the puck drop follows at 3:30 pm.

The Bulls close out the round robin part of the tournament on Saturday at 12:30 pm, facing another team they have seen before the Bismarck Bobcats. The two teams met during the NAHL Showcase in September that Amarillo won 5-1. Broadcast coverage of that game begins at 12:15 pm followed by play-by-play action with Denis J. Puska.

There will be an off day on Sunday for the teams to rest and also participate in an Awards Banquet in the evening. The two National Semi-finals will be held on Monday at 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm, respectively. The first and second place teams in the A Pool will face one another, while the first and second place teams in the B Pool will also take on one another. The Robertson Cup National Championship Game is set for Tuesday at 7:30 pm.

All games will air on Pay-Per-View courtesy of Fast Hockey and a high speed internet connection is required in order to view the games. No watch parties for the games are planned.

All overtime Robertson Cup games, including those played during pool play, will be played using Sudden Death format. If the score is tied after three periods, the teams will go to their respective dressing rooms while the ice is resurfaced for a 20-minute overtime period. This process will repeat until a goal is scored.
The top two teams in each pool will advance to the semifinal round, to be played Monday May 7th. However, should all three teams in one pool go 3-0 in the round-robin, all teams from that pool will advance to the semi-finals. The team with the best goal differential in the opposite pool will also move on to the semi-finals. Similarly, if all three teams from one pool go 2-1, the same rules apply.  Goal differential will be used as the first tiebreaker, while goal quotient will be used as the second tiebreaker. By dividing goals scored by goals allowed, positions will be determined based on the highest quotient.
