AMARILLO TX – The Amarillo Bulls announced today (Friday) that defenseman Geoff Fortman has been added to the South Division roster for the upcoming NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Troy, Michigan in a couple of weeks.
Fortman, will replace forward Brooks Behling who committed to Providence earlier this week. In 38 games with the Bulls this season, Fortman has scored twice and added eight assists for 10 points. The Crystal Lake, Illinois native is one of several Bulls’ players in the top five in plus-minus North American Hockey League. Fortman is fourth overall in that category at plus 31, and second amongst all defenseman.
“Geoff is a first year defenseman who doesn’t play like it,” said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. “He is third on the team in plus-minus and I can assure you that we rely on Geoff on all facets of the game in terms of five-on-five, penalty kill and being a shutdown defenseman.”
Williams added that Fortman is having a similar strong first year that a current Amarillo Bulls’ defenseman had.
“Geoff is a great hockey player that I think a lot of schools are really going to like,” Williams commented. “He reminds me of our own Karl Beckman coming in to his first season. I see Geoff trying to fill those shoes of Karl next year.”
Fortman will join goaltender Gregg Gruehl, fellow defensemen Brandon Lubin and John Rey, along with forwards Tyler Deresky, TJ Sarcona, Jude Warner and Head Coach Dennis Williams from Feb. 20-22 in Troy, Michigan. Warner will play for the NAHL Under18 Team. All games can be viewed on Pay-Per-View courtesy of Fast Hockey.
The Amarillo Bulls close out a four game home stand at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo this weekend with a pair of games against the New Mexico Mustangs at 7 pm.
Tickets for the games are available at the Bulls Office located at 301 South Polk in the Amarillo Building, Civic Center Box Office and all Panhandle Ticket Outlets including United Supermarkets.
