ODESSA, TX – A busy weekend for the Amarillo Bulls begins on the road, with the first of back-to-back games against the Odessa Jackalopes tonight (Friday) at Ector County Coliseum at 7 pm.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night before the Bulls return home for the 3rd annual Sonic Sunday at 6 pm versus the Wichita Falls Wildcats at a special start time of 6 pm.
The Bulls are coming off a split on home against the Corpus Christi IceRays, including a disappointing 3-2 loss on Sunday afternoon. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak and was just the Bulls first loss in regulation at the Budweiser Bull Pen.
Amarillo is currently still tied for second place in the South Division with the Texas Tornado at 39 points, one back of the Topeka RoadRunners who lead the way. The Tornado visit the Corpus Christi IceRays, while Topeka takes on the Springfield Jr. Blues.
It’s the fourth meeting in the last six games between the Bulls and the Jackalopes who oddly enough are still not done with one another in the month of December. The two will meet two more times Friday, Dec. 28 and Saturday, Dec. 29 in the Texas Panhandle. The Bulls have won all six previous games in the season series, outscoring the Jacks 31-10.
One person will be noticeably absent as play-by-play broadcaster Denis J. Puska will miss Friday and Saturday’s games due to Laryngitis. It’s just his fourth and fifth games he has missed in Amarillo Hockey History and eighth and ninth games he has missed since 2001.
Fans will still be able to tune into tonight’s game live on ESPN1440 courtesy of Tony Brown the voice of the Jackalpes beginning at 6:50 pm. The puck drop is set for 7:05 pm. The games will still be aired via Fast Hockey, but a high speed internet connection is required in order to view the game.
