AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls won their eighth straight at home on Sunday night.
Patrick Pollock scored midway through the second period to lift the Bulls past the Odessa Jackalopes 4-1. It was the Bulls 17th win on home ice this season and it pushed their South Division lead to 11 points over second place Topeka in the South Division. The NAHL overall lead is back in the hands of Amarillo by two points over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
Mitchell McPherson, Roman Ammirato and Brady Ferguson notched the other Bulls goals in support of Collin Delia who stopped 36 of 37 shots to post his nine win in two years over the Jackalopes. Kyle Gattelaro chipped in two assists.
It was a fast moving opening 20 minutes with the visiting Jackalopes breaking the scoreless drought that lasted more than five periods by scoring a rare goal on Collin Delia to lead 1-0. Delia had only allowed three previous goals heading into the contest.
Later in the stanza, forward Mitchell McPherson tied the game 1-1 when he slid the puck across the goal line that went between Yoshihiro Kuroiwa’s legs. Roman Ammirato and Tyler Gernhofer earned helpers on the play. The Bulls outshot the Jackalopes 16-13 in the first stanza.
The second period was controlled by the Bulls as they were able to fire 19 shots on goal. Several great scoring chances were denied by Kuroiwa who made some big stops. The Bulls continued to push forward and were rewarded for their efforts. Patrick Pollock gave his team the lead on a shot from the point that was deflected in. Tyler Gernhofer and Brendan Vetter helped out on the goal. Amarillo outshot Odessa 19-10 in the middle period.
The final 20 minutes was wide open with both teams working hard. Roman Ammirato added an insurance goal at the midway mark when he knocked in a loose puck in the goal crease area from Patrick Pollock and Kyle Gattelaro. Bulls goaltender Collin Delia was kept busy down the stretch making some big saves to preserve the lead. One of the saves was off a scramble in front of the net when he lost his goal stick. In the final two minutes, the Jackalopes pulled their goaltender looking to score a couple of goals. Brady Ferguson and his teammates prevented the Jackalopes from getting any offense materialized and rounded out the scoring with an empty net marker from Kyle Gattelaro and Mike Davis.
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Odessa Jackalopes 49-37. There were nine total power plays with the Bulls going 1 for 6, while the Jacks finished 0 for 3.
