Bulls Weekly Release – Volume 4 – Edition 1

BLAINE, MINNESOTA – The Amarillo Bulls collected a total of three points and notched a record of 1-2-1 at the North American Hockey League Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota last week. After a posting an opening game victory over the Johnstown Tomahawks 6-3, the Bulls dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bismarck Bobcats, a 4-1 decision to the Kenai River Brown Bears and then concluded play with a 6-5 overtime loss to the Janesville Jets.

Up next for the Amarillo Bulls is opening weekend against the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday and Saturday at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. In three previous opening weekends, the Bulls have a mark of 3-1 and are unbeaten in three home openers.

 

THE WEEK AHEAD:

FRIDAY, SEPT. 27 VS. ODESSA JACKALOPES – 7 PM: The Amarillo Bulls face off their fourth home opener at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center and the second time they will see the Odessa Jackalopes as far as opening weekends are concerned.

          Promotion: It’s $1 hotdogs and $1 sodas with the first 500 fans receiving a magnet schedule.

 

SATURDAY, SEPT. 28 VS. ODESSA JACKALOPES – 7 PM: The Bulls conclude opening weekend with a second straight game versus the Jackalopes.

Promotion: It’s championship celebration night as the Robertson Cup Banner will be raised and the Robertson Cup brought onto the ice. Fans are invited to set up their own Tailgate in the Northeast Parking Lot behind the Civic Center. The best Tailgate set up will receive a T-shirt and Hat Prize Package.

 

BROADCAST SCHEDULE: Fans can tune into both games live on CBS Sports Radio 1440, www.amarillobulls.com, and on PPV courtesy of Fast Hockey beginning with the Wayland Baptist University Warm Up-Show at 6:45 pm. Denis J. Puska has the play-by-play call at 7 pm.

 

RADIO SHOW RETURNS: The Amarillo Bulls Radio Show makes its return on Monday, Sept. 30 from 6pm to 7 pm at Seven Grill and Bar located on Soncy Road in Amarillo. It’s the second straight year that the Bulls will have their weekly program at the restaurant. The show airs weekly live on CBS Sports Radio 1440 and www.amarillobulls.com.

 

 

NAHL Showcase Notes:

South Division Mark: In total the South Division posted nine victories in the four day event with Topeka RoadRunners and the Wichita Falls Wildcats each getting two.

Fairbanks and Austin share title: The Fairbanks Ice Dogs, the Austin Bruins and the Kenai River Brown Bears all finsihed the 2013 NAHL Showcase with perfect 4-0 records, but in the end it was Fairbanks and Austin who will share the Showcase title thanks to both teams having a +10 goal differential.  The Brown Bears finished with a +7 goal differential. In total, an all-time record of 346 NHL, NCAA and junior scouts checked-in during the four days of the NAHL Showcase.

BULLS GAME REWIND:

AMARILLO BULLS 6 – JOHNSTOWN TOMAHAWKS 3: Five power play goals and six different marksmen powered the Amarillo Bulls to their first win of the season. Tyler Gernhofer, Brendan Vetter, Kyle Gattelaro, Matt Sieckhaus and Mike Davis scored for the Bulls, while Colin Delia notched the win in goal. Roman Ammirato and Kyle Gattelaro each added two assists.The Bulls rallied from a 3-2 deficit with two goals in a 65 second span and then put the game away with two more in the third.

BISMARCK BOBCATS 3 – AMARILLO BULLS 1: The Bulls scored the game’s first goal but after that couldn’t hold off the Bismarck Bobcats in a 3-1 loss. Omar Mullan scored on a deflection in front of the net from Brendan Vetter and Joe Grabowski.

KENAI RIVER BROWN BEARS 4 – AMARILLO BULLS 1: The Bulls surrendered two power play goals in the third and fell 4-1. Tyler Gernhofer notched the lone Bulls’ goal from Roman Ammirato and Brendan Vetter.

JANESVILLE JETS 6 – AMARILLO BULLS 5 – OVERTIME: A big lead in the second period slipped away and the Bulls fell in OT to the Jets. Amarillo rallied from two one-goal deficits to force overtime. Tyler Gernhofer added a pair of goals, while Roman Ammirato, Mitchell Vanderburg and Matt Sieckhaus collected singles. Ammirato added a couple of assists.
