AMARILLO, TX – Defenseman Matt Nehls got his first glimpse at the North American Hockey League team he will be skating with starting next season.
Nehls, who played in two games over the weekend, signed a tender with the Amarillo Bulls for the 2015-16 season.
Nehls who hails from Boulder, Colorado is in his third season with the Omaha AAA organization and is the Omaha 18U Team Co-Captain. To date this season, the 18-year-old defenseman known as a steady shutdown defender has amassed 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 points to go along with 22 PIM in 24 games with the Omaha AAA 18U Team.
The 6-1, 205 pound defenseman had three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 24 games last season. He played previously for the Under 16 program where he collected two goals and two assists for four points in 18 games.
“Matt is a big strong stay-at-home defenseman who can move the puck,” said Bulls Head Coach Jon Rogger. “We are happy to have him with us next season. Dave Wilkie does a great job with the program so we know what we are getting from them. Matt comes from a winning program so hopefully that winning attitude will be contagious on our team.”
