Bulls Select 7 In Draft

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls made a heavy push towards defense during the North American Hockey League Draft that took place on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulls selected four defenseman and three forwards with their seven picks.

With their first pick, 7th overall, the Bulls chose defenseman Robby Fosdick from the Madison Capitals of the United States Hockey League. Other players joining Fosdick are: Grant Morford, 2nd Round-29th overall, (Defenseman, Ontario Avalanche U18); Michael Forman, 3rd Round-47th overall, (Center – Flint Powers Catholic High School); Zach Sarnowski, 3rd Round-51st overall, (Forward-TPH Thunder, Tier I Elite League); Riley DeFazio, 3rd Round-62nd overall, (Defenseman Belle Tire, Tier I Elite League); Sammy Nardicchio, 95th overall-5th Round (Forward-Honeybaked U18-Tier I Elite League); and Max Ginsberg, 5th Round-103rd overall, (Forward-Roxbury Latin, USHS).

Bulls Head Coach Jon Rogger said the team needed to rebuild its defensive corps.

“We wanted to fill in four spots from last season’s group,” said Rogger.  “We added size and strength on the back end that will allow us to play better defensive hockey this season.”

All 22 NAHL teams participated in the Draft, including the newest members Aston Rebels, New Jersey Junior Titans and the Wilkes-Bare/Scranton Knights. Eligible teams made selections in each round in reverse order of their finish in the 2014-15 NAHL regular-season standings. The NAHL Entry Draft consisted of the number of rounds necessary for each Club’s protected list to reach 30 total players. The thirty players are made up of veteran players, tendered players and drafted players. Each eligible NAHL Club was entitled to one selection per round unless it has acquired or lost selections due to approved trades with other NAHL Clubs.

Rogger said they had a good game plan heading into the day’s proceedings.

“Before the Draft we sat down as a staff and went over the list of the Top 15 that we would like to see,” he said. “We feel we got seven of the 15.”

From the seven Draft selections, fans can already notice that the Bulls have quickly gotten bigger and stronger with many of the players averaging well over six feet. Rogger said the fans will be pleased with that they see on the ice.

“We went bigger and strong both on defense and up front,” said Rogger. “As a staff we knew the holes we needed to fill and we feel we accomplished that with the Draft. Even with the South Division changing around us, we think the toughness of the division won’t change at all.”

Up next for the Amarillo Bulls is the 2015 Open Camp that will take place in Monument, Colorado from June 26-28. Once that Camp has concluded then it will be time for the Bulls Main Camp that moves to St. Louis, Missouri July 17-19 at the Hardees Ice Plex.
