AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls fired three goals in a four minute span and then held on to beat the Wichita Falls Wildcats 4-3 on Saturday night at The Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The victory salvaged the Bulls two game home stand and earned them a split following a loss on Friday night.
The Bulls got off to another terrific start in the first period and scored in the first five minutes of the game. Joe Kozlak tipped home a pass from Matt Johnson and Luke Jenkins. Amarillo outshot Wichita Falls 9-5.
However, the second period was another problem for the Bulls as they surrendered two goals, seven-minutes apart and trailed 2-1 going into the third period.
The power play sparked the Bulls attack in the final 20 minutes and gave them the lead 3-2. First, Ricky DeRosa scored from Dan Sherer and Karl Beckman. Four minutes later, Michael Erickson was left alone at the side of the net and scored from Joe Kozlak and Matt Johnson. The Bulls would tally their fifth goal 50 seconds later when Cody Freeman tipped home a shot from Kyle Sucher and Colton Warner.
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Wildcats 46-20 including 25-6 in the third period. There were a total of 15 power plays in the game with the Bulls going 2-9 and the Cats were 1-6.
Last night’s game featured 100 minutes in penalties and several fights – and there was some thought that things could spill over to the second night. However, Saturday’s game only had 52 minutes in penalties and no altercations.
The Bulls return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Frisco to take the on Texas Tornado at the Dr. Pepper Star Center.
