Bulls Playoff Hopes Remain Alive Despite Loss

AMARILLO, TX – Despite taking a hit on Saturday night, the Amarillo Bulls playoff aspirations are still alive heading into the final six games of the North American Hockey League’s regular season.

The Bulls trail Corpus Christi by just eight points for the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division after losing to the IceRays 4-1 on Saturday night. Rocky Russo’s charges will look to keep their chances afloat when they visit the Lone Star Brahmas this Friday and Saturday at NYTEX Sports Center at 7:30 pm. The IceRays will travel to Shreveport to meet the Mudbugs at George’s Pond Hirsch Coliseum also this coming weekend.

At American Bank Center on Saturday night the Bulls fell behind 2-0 after 40 minutes and surrendered a back-breaking, power play goal early in the third period to the IceRays. Stephen Rex tried to mount a Bulls comeback later in the stanza when he scored a hard-working shorthanded goal to trim the deficit to 3-1. With the Bulls pressing looking to mount another late game comeback, Garrett Halford scored on blast with less than five minutes remaining in regulation time. Goaltender Chad Veltri turned aside 32 of 33 shots he faced to post the win, while Jason Grande took the loss.

The Amarillo Bulls play their final two home games of the regular season on Friday, Mar. 30 and Saturday, Mar. 31 when they host the Topeka RoadRunners at 7 pm. Friday is Pop Stop and 806 Sports Night featuring the Family Four Pack for $44 and the Bring A Bud for $22. It’s also Mascot Night with plenty of fun provided. Saturday is Fan and Child appreciation night with special youth jerseys given away at the door.
