Bulls Net 5th Straight Win

AMARILLO, TX – It was another dominating performance by the Amarillo Bulls on Thursday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Bulls fired three second period goals and outshot the Odessa Jackalopes 23-2 en route to a 5-2 victory. It was Amarillo’s fifth win in a row, and it kept them alone in third place in the South Division standings.

It was a slow start by both teams to the game as they combined for just one shot in the first six minutes. The Bulls came on in the final 10 minutes and outshot the Jacks 14-5.

“I challenged the guys after the first period and asked them where they wanted to be as a team,” said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. “I told them that right now we were not playing as a top contending or playoff team. “In the second period we really showed how we can go out there and play. We started to separate ourselves from our opponent. Much of that goes to Elite MMA And Fitness and our guys training over there. Our guys are really starting to see the hard work they have put in the weight room or with Jimmy Boyd paying off.”

Clint Carlisle gave the Bulls a 1-0 lead early in the second period when he backhanded a puck behind Andrew Pikul. Ryan Cole and Garrett Peterson picked up assists on the goal.

Four minutes later, Richie Marenis scored his first in the NAHL from Matt Sieckhaus and TJ Sherman.

After Odessa trimmed the Bulls lead to 2-1 one of two shots in the middle stanza, the Bulls collected a third goal in the final seconds of the frame. TJ Sarcona scored on a screen shot from Michael Davis on John Rey. The Bulls outshot Odessa 23-2 in the second period.

In the third period Gage Christianson scored at the 2:32 mark from Peterson and Connor O’Neil to extend the lead to 4-1. Just over four minutes after that, Hampus Gustafsson scored from Matt Sieckhaus and goaltender Collin Delia. Odessa rounded out the scoring with a goal just past the seven minute mark.

There were just 13 shots combined from the two teams in the third period with the Bulls gaining the upper hand 8-5. In the game the Bulls outshot Odessa 45-12 and for the third straight game kept the opposition to 20 shots or less. There were seven total power plays with the Bulls going 0 for 3, while Odessa was 1 for 4.
