Bulls Fall To Jacks 6-2

IMG_3280 AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls surrendered three first period goals including two less than a minute apart and dropped a 6-2 decision to the Odessa Jackalopes at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The Bulls were unable to harness the momentum gained from a win in Wichita Falls on Friday night and use it in the home opener.

Kosta Likourezos scored both Amarillo Bulls goals, including one on the power play in the 2nd period. Likourezos has scored the last three goals for the Bulls. Forward George Mika notched two assist. Kyle Madore started in goal for the Bulls but was replaced after the fourth goal by Nikita Babintsev who played well and did his best to keep his team within striking distance.

It was a quick start to the game for the Bulls, as they fired several shots towards Kyle Madore who turned them away. Madore was replaced by Nikita Babintsev. The Odessa Jackalopes pounced on the Bulls early on capitalizing on turnovers inside their offensive zone.

The Jackalopes struck first capitalizing on a play near the side of the net. Seven minutes later Odessa struck for two including a shot that beat goaltender Kyle Madore stick side. Odessa outshot Amarillo 16-12 in the first period.

The Bulls got rolling in the 2nd period and it was special teams that went to work. Kosta Likourezos netted his first of two when he drilled a shot past goaltender Johnny Hoague. Hayden Broomhead and George Mika gathered assists on the play. After that the Jackalopes took over and added two more goals to extend their advantage to 5-1. It was the fourth goal that sent goaltender Kyle Madore to the bench for Nikita Babintsev. The Bulls were outshot by the Jackalopes 14-8 in the middle stanza.

Likourezos continued his hot hand in the third period scoring on a play near the side of the net from George Mika and Brendan Michaelian. That goal seem to give the Bulls plenty of momentum as they pushed to get the game closer but goaltender but it was Babintsev who kept the Bulls close. Odessa rounded out the scoring with a goal in the final three minutes. The Odessa’s player’s shot went off a Bulls defenseman in to the vacated net.

The Odessa Jackalopes outshot the Amarillo 37-35 despite the Bulls firing 15 shots in the final 20 minutes.

The Amarillo Bulls have a single game next Saturday, Sept. 17 when they take on the Lone Star Brahmas at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull In the Amarillo Civic Center.
