Bulls Fall To Brahmas 6-1

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – A short-staffed Amarillo Bulls team surrendered four goals over the first 40 minutes and dropped a 6-1 decision to the Lone Star Brahmas at NYTEX Sports Center in North Richland Hills on Wednesday. The game concluded a schedule where the Bulls saw the Brahmas for three games over a six day period. It was the Bulls lone game of the week and will enjoy the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend off for the first time in franchise history before returning to action to face the Odessa Jackalopes in West Texas next Friday and Saturday Dec. 5 and 6.

The Bulls were missing three defensemen, including two due to illness and another to an upper body injury. Several players were also feeling under the weather with flu-like-symptoms forcing the Bulls to play with four defenseman.

AJ Duggan scored the lone Bulls’ goal that ended the shutout bid by TJ Black early in the third period.

It was a fast moving first period of hockey as the first minutes were played without a whistle. The Bulls came out with a good push on the power play and combination of Charlie Combs, Cody Gylling and company missed on a passing play near the front of the net. Will Harrison also had a terrific chance when his shot drifted wide. The Brahmas jumped out to a late 1-0 lead when a puck was deflected into the net behind Anton Martinsson. The Bulls were outshot by the Brahmas 13-5.

Lone Star extended their lead to 2-0, 17 seconds into the second period with a power play goal. Riley Christensen and Hogan Davidson got into a good scrap that seem to ignite the Bulls for a 10 minute stretch and they worked hard but unable to score. The Brahmas tacked on two goals 69 seconds apart to stretch their lead to 4-0. The third goal chased Anton Martinson who was replaced by Jacob Weatherly. Lone Star outshot Amarillo 7-6 in the second period.

In the first two minutes of the third period the Bulls converted a three on one break when AJ Duggan put in a rebound behind Black. Tristan Rostagno and Joey DiBenedetto earned assists on the play.  The Brahmas rounded out the scoring with a pair of goals less than three minutes apart nearly five minutes after the Bulls had scored.

The Lone Star Brahmas outshot the Amarillo Bulls 30-17. There were seven combined power plays with the Brahmas going 2 for 3 and the Bulls were 0 for 4.
