Bulls Fall To Brahmas 2-1 in Tight Checking Affair

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls couldn’t overcome a quick start by the visiting Lone Star Brahmas on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

The hometown Bulls yielded two goals in the first 6:03 of the game and dropped a hard fought 2-1 decision to Lone Star. The loss snapped the Bulls unbeaten streak at six games and consecutive win streak at three.

It was the Bulls 8th Military Appreciation Night Presented By Sitel and a crowd of nearly 2,500 watched a pre-game ceremony that consisted of the enlistment of new recruits, a rappel puck drop from the rafters of the Civic Center and a flag ceremony entrance. After the game The Corral was packed for the first jersey auction of the year in support of America Celebrate, Honor and Serve, and more than $21,000 was raised.

On the ice the Bulls entered the game with three consecutive clean sheets and a shutout string of 180 minutes. That streak came to an abrupt halt in the first 26 seconds of play as Julian Biondo was left out in front of the net and his quick shot beat goaltender Jason Grande on the glove side to make it 1-0. Less than six minutes later, the visitors went to work again and newcomer Austin Bottrell was sent in and was able to deposit the puck in the net as he caught Grande going in the other direction.

After that flurry the teams settled down and played a tight defensive effort that was hard fought over the ice. The Bulls had the momentum on their side in the second period outhustling Lone Star but failing to get the puck past goaltender Harrison Feeney.

It took 77 seconds into the third period when the Bulls finally solved the goaltender. Forward Nick Fea spotted Nick Stuckless in front of the net who was able to jab the puck past Feeney and close the game to one goal. Alex Peterson also earned an assist on the play. Undisciplined penalties in the third period prevented Amarillo from completing the comeback bit and seizing any type of momentum gained. The Bulls pulled their goaltender but failed to score.
