EIGHT AND TWENTY-TWO: It’s the eighth season of the Amarillo Bulls in the North American Hockey and the 22nd consecutive year of Hockey In The Texas Panhandle dating back to the Amarillo Rattlers and the Amarillo Gorillas of the former Western Professional Hockey League and the Central Hockey League.
NEW SEASON: The Amarillo Bulls are looking to build off a 24 point improvement of a year ago and make that ultimate leap to the Robertson Cup Playoffs. The Bulls finished two games below .500 on the road but struggled at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. Rocky Russo takes over as the team’s fourth Head Coach in Franchise History replacing Matt Nicholson who returned to the NCAA Division I Hockey. The Bulls have six players returning from last year’s team while five members of the roster were either NAHL Draft Picks or Tender Signings.
THE SERIES: This is the first of 12 meetings this season between the Amarillo Bulls and the Odessa Jackalopes. Thanks to partnership from New Avenues Lease-To-Own the Bulls and the Jackalopes have created the Freeway Series Championship Belt. The team that wins the season long series will be presented with the belt.
SHOWCASE NEXT WEEK: The Amarillo Bulls and the Odessa Jackalopes as well as the entire North American Hockey League will be in Blaine Minnesota next week for the 2017 Showcase at the Schwann Super Rink. The Bulls will face the Wilkes-Bare Scranton Knights on Wednesday, followed by the Minnesota Wilderness on Thursday, the Bismarck Bobcats on Friday and then concluding with the Northeast Generals on Saturday.
