TOPEKA, KS – Bounce back performances have been a huge part of the success of the first year of the Amarillo Bulls.
The Bulls will need another one of those character, gritty team efforts tonight (Friday) at 7:35 pm when they face the Michigan Warriors in the Robertson Cup North American Hockey League National Semi-Final at the Kansas Expo Center-Landon Arena.
A 2-1 loss to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Thursday afternoon, forced the Bulls to move to the National Semi-Final instead of getting the day off for the National Championship Game. John Rey tallied the lone goal for Amarillo, but Fairbanks was able to score two goals inside of five minutes in the third period, and then hold on for the win.
Meantime, the Michigan Warriors dumped the host Topeka RoadRunners 5-2 in action last night. The RoadRunners were eliminated from the tournament and were 0-5 in their five games, including three against the Amarillo Bulls.
It’s the third meeting of the season between the two first-year franchises the Bulls and the Warriors, and a rematch of the top two NAHL’s goaltenders Nikifor Szczerba of Amarillo and Robert Tadazak of Michigan.
The Bulls and the Warriors match up very well and the first two meetings were close and entertaining. A balanced scoring attack allowed the Bulls to take both of those contests.
