Bulls Comeback With 4-3 Win To Even Series

TOPEKA, KS – Saving the best for last.

The Amarillo Bulls collected one of their biggest and perhaps their best come-from-behind wins of the season on Saturday night. Four third-period goals inside of three minutes erased a 3-0 deficit, and powered the Bulls past the Topeka Road Runners 4-3 at Kansas Expo Center-Landon Arena.

The victory by the Bulls evened the Best-Of-Five South Division Final at 1-1 with the next two games set for Amarillo at The Bull Pen on Thursday and Friday night.

It was a wild game that featured a 15 minute-delay due to more light problems, and clock operator’s malfunction where the start of the final 16.1 seconds began nine-seconds late.

The Bulls special teams were also a big difference in the game, killing off 10 Topeka power plays but surrendering two goals. The RoadRunners failed to score on two five on threes.

Topeka raced out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play and had a 3-0 advantage through 40 minutes.

TJ Sarcona began the Bulls third-period comeback as he kept the puck in a blueline and fired a shot past Rasmus Tirronen at the 10:36 mark. That goal ignited the Bulls attack that was fueled further by a marker from Dan McDougall less than a minute later. McDougall’s screen shot found the back of the net.

One minute later the Bulls comeback was complete when Zack Smoot’s shot on the powerplay hit paydirt.

The Bulls took the lead 4-3 at the 13:28 mark when Cody Freeman’s backhand shot beat goaltender.

After that the Bulls defense tightened up and only allowed Topeka one quality scoring chance in the final seven minutes.

The series now shifts to the Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center for game three on Thursday, April 21 and Friday, April 22 at 7 pm.
