Bulls Best Tornado Again, 3-2

FRISCO, TX – Brooks Behling scored what proved to be the game winning goal midway through the third period to lift the Amarillo Bulls past the Texas Tornado 3-2 on Thursday night at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, TX on Thursday night.

 It was the Bulls fourth straight win over the Texas Tornado and it moved them three points ahead in second place in the NAHL’s South Division with still several games in hand. The Bulls notched their 31stwin in the contest and 16thon the road.

Amarillo had a 2-1 advantage entering the third period when Behling followed up big round and fired it in behind goaltender Jimmy Kruger to make it 3-1.Derek Hills and Joe Kozlak notched assists on the goal.  A short time later the Tornado would pull to within one at 3-2, but wouldn’t be able to get any closer.

Bulls goaltender Nikifor Szczerba was solid in net, stopping 32 of 34 shots he faced.

It was another terrific battle between the Amarillo Bulls and the Texas Tornado. It seems when the two teams get together, fans are treated to plenty of excitement.

The Bulls broke the ice first when Sean Keane capitalized on a Texas Tornado turnover at the blue line and fired a shot past the goaltender to make it 1-0. The first period also featured a fight between Eric Millisor of the Bulls and Mico Solorzano of the Tornado.

In the second period the Bulls penalty killing was solid in not letting the Tornado score on a five minute major power play. Texas tied the game 1-1 at the 12:35 mark, but the Bulls retook the lead in the final 90 seconds of the period. Luke Jenkins shot went off several legs and deflected in behind the Tornado goaltender. The marker was credited to Joe Kozlak and TJ Sarcona added a second assist.

The Texas Tornado outshot the Amarillo Bulls 34-26. There were a total of 8 power plays in the contest with neither team getting a goal on the man advantage.

The Amarillo Bulls return to action on Sunday afternoon when they visit the Corpus Christi IceRays at 3 pm at American Bank Center.
