Bulls Beat Wildcats 6-3 For 5th Straight Win

(Please note that Pointstreak will be changed accordingly.)

WICHITA FALLS – Ricky DeRosa fired four goals including a natural hattrick to power the Amarillo Bulls to a 6-3 win over the Wichita Falls Wildcats on Saturday night at Kay Yeager Coliseum.

It was the Bulls fifth win in a row and 12thof the season. The victory pulled Amarillo to within five points of the second place Wildcats with five games in hand. It was the first of three consecutive meetings between the two teams. They will play back-to-back contests at the Amarillo Civic Center next weekend.

The game was the Bulls first in 13 days and the long layoff didn’t help the team as they fell behind 2-0 after 20 minutes of hockey, thanks to a pair of Wildcat powerplay goals.

But it was the Bulls powerplay, which had been struggling, that would catch fire and propel them even at 2-2 in the second period. DeRosa would score his first of three in a row when he deflected home a shot from newcomer Colton Warner and Captain Derek Hills on a two man advantage. DeRosa’s second of the game would come on the same power play, 13 seconds later, on a shot fired from Luke Jenkins.

DeRosa and the Bulls were not done yet, and took the lead with 2:31 left in the second period when he tucked one home at the side of the net.

After Wichita Falls tied the game 3-3 early in the third period, Amarillo would regain the lead they wouldn’t relinquish. First Luke Jenkins scored on a wrap around unassisted at 10:08, and then Zack Smoot made it 5-3 with less than five minutes to play. Smoot stole the puck from the Wildcats’ defenseman and made a great move on the goaltender. Ricky DeRosa’s fourth goal of the game into the empty net would round out the scoring.

Wichita Falls outshot Amarillo 36-28 including 14-6 in the first period.

Hockey returns to the Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center next Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20 when the Bulls entertain the Wichita Falls Wildcats at 7 pm. On Friday, the Bulls mascot will unveiled for the first time. Saturday’s game is sponsored by Amarillo Pediatric Dentistry and there will be plenty of giveaways throughout the night. It’s Bank/Credit Union Employee Appreciation Night.
