AMARILLO, TX – One of the best rivalries in the North American Hockey League is renewed when the Amarillo Bulls host the Topeka RoadRunners starting tonight (Friday) at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. Face off is set for 7 pm.
The rivalry between the two teams started in two seasons ag when they met about 20 times including exhibition, regular season and playoffs. The two teams have also faced one another in big important games such as the last two South Division finals, and a round robin game at the Robertson Cup a couple of years ago.
Tonight’s game is sponsored by McDonalds with all sorts of activities and contests planned. Tomorrow is United Way Night and fans are encouraged to bring a group to the game in support of this terrific organization. The Bulls will also wear their special jerseys and a live auction follows immediately after the game.
In the standings, the Bulls trail the RoadRunners by four points for first place in the South Division. Amarillo still has three games in hand over Topeka. This weekend marks the first of back-to- back series between the two clubs. They will play again next Friday and Saturday at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena.
The Bulls have not had a regulation loss (9-0-1) in their last 10 games, while Topeka has seven wins in their last 10 (7-2-1). Bulls forward Michael Davis has 13 points in his last nine games, forwards Sean Gaffney and Kyle Sharkey of Topeka have a combined 23 points in their last 10 games.
