Bulls Alumni Notebook-Grabowski lands first NCAA goal

AMARILLO, TX – It has certainly been a season of firsts for Amarillo Bulls Alumni.

Several players have netted their first NCAA goals, while several goaltenders have made their marks with starts and wins.

Defenseman Joe Grabowski continued the string players getting into the scoring parade by netting his first goal in NCAA play for Princeton on Friday night. Grabowski’s goal wasn’t enough as the Tigers lost to Harvard 4-3.

Despite losing both games to Mercyhurst over the weekend, Army had production from several Bulls Alumni. Joe Kozlak scored on Friday night, while Brendan McGuire and Clint Carlisle each had a goal and an assist in the next game.

Robert Morris University continues its strong season following two big wins over Sacred Heart. Brady Ferguson fired one goal and set up two more in the Colonials 8-4 triumph. Forward Greg Gibson and defenseman John Rey each contributed helpers. Rey had an assist in the first game between the two teams that Robert Morris won 5-4.

Cody Freeman and Geoff Fortman each had an assist as Canisius College beat American 3-1 and then settled for a 4-4 tie.

After missing quite a bit of time due to an upper body injury, TJ Sarcona returned to Niagara’s line-up and picked up an assist in a 4-2 loss to Holy Cross University (Paul Berrafato and Karl Beckman).

Collin Delia stopped 20 of 21 shots as Merrimack tied Boston University 1-1. The next night Merrmiack lost 4-2 to BU. Delia started the game, but was relieved by Rasmus Tirronen. Hampus Gustafsson set up both Merrimack College markers.

In Division III, Dan McNamara picked up assists in each of the games for St. John’s over the weekend. The Johnnies fell 6-5 to Augsburg but rebounded and won 4-2.

Forward Omar Mullen scored once and set up three more while Gage Christensen contributed three assists as Milwaukee School of Engineering hammered Northland 8-2. In the next game, Christensen picked up a goal and an assist and Mullen scored as MSOE blanked Northland 3-0.

Derek Hills grabbed a helper as St. Scholastica doubled Aurora 6-3.

Brett Szajner notched the first goal of the game as Utica beat Curry 5-1. Ryan Taylor picked up an assist as Western New England fell to Assumption 4-3.

            The Amarillo Bulls conclude their month long stretch of road games when they visit the Corpus Christi IceRays at American Bank Center. The two teams will square off on Thursday and Friday at 7 pm. Fans can tune into the action live on CBS Sports Radio 1440, online at www.amarillobulls.com and on PPV courtesy of Fast Hockey beginning with the Wayland Baptist University Warm Up Show 20 minutes before the puck is dropped.

          It won’t be long until the Bulls return home for two games at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. That takes place on Friday, Dec. 19 and Saturday,, Dec. 20 against the Lone Star Brahmas at 7 pm. Fans are encouraged to wear their ugliest Christmas Sweater to Friday’s game and they could win a prize. Saturday is the annual Toys For Tots Teddy Bear Toss Presented By Walmart where fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear or Stuffed Animal to the game. When the bulls score their first goal, throw the toys onto the ice in support of the great cause.
