AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls added more depth to their roster by acquiring forward Eric Purcell from the Kenai River Brown Bears.
Purcell, a native of Lake In The Hills Illinois, played in 23 games for the Brown Bears where he collected five goals and six assists for 11 points. Two of his goals were via the power play, and he had 45 shots on goal.
The 6-1, 180 pound forward began the season with the Corpus Christi Ice Rays where he served as team captain. Purcell had spent nearly two and a half seasons with the Ice Rays prior to the trade to Kenai River. In 131 games, Purcell tallied 45 goals and 36 assists for 61 points. He had seven game-winning markers and 164 penalty minutes.
Amarillo Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams is excited to bring Purcell’s leadership abilities to the team.
“With us losing Ryan Stevens we had to fill that hole right now,” said Williams. “As a 20 year old, he has that leadership and has been in the South Division for the past two and half years. He understands what it takes to compete in the division and knows our opponents.”
Williams said Purcell still has goals he wants to accomplish by the end of the season.
“He is geared up and wants to help us win,” he said. “Eric also wants to be a Division I hockey player, and there is still time left in the year for guys to reach their goals and dreams.”
Eric Purcell will arrive in the Texas Panhandle this week and is expected to be in the Bulls line-up next weekend.
The Amarillo Bulls have the weekend off which will be their first of two this month. The Bulls return to action next Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15 when they host the Lone Star Brahmas at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. It’s Parents Weekend as the Bulls will welcome players’ parents to the game.
There are plenty of activities planned for those two games including the Bulls wearing specialty jerseys in support of Texas Panhandle Pet Savers. An auction will be held immediately after the game on Feb. 15 with proceeds to benefit that organization. Saturday is also Scout Night.
