PITTSBURGH, PA – The 8th Amarillo Bulls Main Camp has concluded near Pittsburgh, PA and the new Coaching Staff is pleased with the selections they have made towards the 2017-18 Roster.
Approximately 30 players will report to the Texas Panhandle the week of August 27th to begin on ice and off-ice training sessions at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The roster will be released to the public at a later date. The Bulls had an excellently attended Main Camp with battles for all positions from goaltending, forwards and defense.
Head Coach Rocky Russo says he was particularly impressed with how prepared some of veteran returning players were.
“Those players were prepared, in-shape and excited about the new coaching staff,” Russo said. “I thought Brendan Michaelian, Quinn Warmuth, Marcus Chorney, Alex Truscott and that group of players were leaders in the locker room and on the ice throughout the camp so we are going to lean on them to set the pace and the tone back in Amarillo in Training Camp.”
Russo said two of their NAHL Draft Picks Jon Russell and Steven Rex were also quite good.
“We expect Jon and Steven to contribute right away to our line-up,” Russo said. “Steven Rex had a really good season with the Pens Elite Program last year. I think he can create some energy and offense for us.”
The Bulls Main Camp was spread out over five days that started with goaltenders and then proceeded in several days of games before the final all-star contests took place. Russo said the two all-star games led to some difficult decisions for the staff but they are excited with the roster that they have.
“The staff was pleased with the talent level that was assembled for camp and how hard they worked during all the games,” he said. “There were some very difficult decisions for the staff that kept me up at night. I really wanted to think this through and we relied on our staff David Nies, Todd Sandin (North Iowa Bulls NA3HL Head Coach), and Trent Ritchie. We had a number of sets of eyes to help give us a better perspective of what they thought.”
