Big Crowds, Over $10,000 Raised In Auction Highlight Weekend

 

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls received some good news today when the NAHL chose forward Matt Johnson as the South Division player of the week. Johnson finished the weekend with one goal and four assists. Forward Zack Smoot and goaltender Nikifor Szczerba received honorable mentions.

Meanwhile, five out of six points, big crowds and raising money for a good cause were some of the highlights of an exciting weekend for the Amarillo Bulls — that saw them move into sole possession of second place in the NAHL’s South Division. The Bulls blanked the New Mexico Mustangs 3-0 and then dumped Corpus Christi 7-3 before falling 4-3 to the IceRays in a shootout.

 

MAKE-A-WISH JERSEY AUCTION A HUGE SUCCESS:The Amarillo Bulls helped the Make-A-Wish Foundation on Saturday night with a specialty jersey auction. A total of $10,650 was raised that night for the organization.

 

FANS IN THE STANDS:It was a busy weekend in the turnstiles for the Amarillo Bulls at The Bull Pen. Nearly 3,000 fans were in attendance on Friday night, while close to 2,700 were at the game on Saturday.

 

RADIO SHOW AT FAZOLI’S:Tonight’s edition of the Amarillo Radio Show is on location at Fazoli’s from 6 pm to 7 pm. Join Denis J. UPCOMING SCHEDULE:It’s back on the road this weekend for the Amarillo Bulls with three games in five days. On Thursday night, the Bulls visit the Texas Tornado at the Dr. Pepper Star Center at 7:30 pm in a huge second-place showdown. The Bulls then head to South Texas for two with the Corpus Christi IceRays on Sunday at 3 pm and Monday at 7 pm.

 

BROADCAST SCHEDULE:Fans can tune into all three games this week on ESPN1440 and www.amarillobulls.com. Thursday’s game begins with the Bulls Warm Up Show Presented By Wayland Baptist University at 7:15 pm. On Sunday, the pre-game show begins at 2:45 pm and Monday at 6:45 pm. Please note that there will be no Bulls Radio Show on Monday, Mar. 7 due to reschedule of the Bulls and IceRays game.

 

NEXT HOME GAMES:The Amarillo Bulls return to home ice at The Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center on March 11, 12 13. On Friday, it’s Wildfire Relief Night when the Bulls host the New Mexico Mustangs at 7 pm. One dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to the Red Cross to help the wildfire families.

On Saturday when Amarillo hosts Topeka RoadRunners at 7 pm, there will be a special pre-game ceremony to honor the parents of the Bulls’ players. The Bulls close out the three-game weekend on Sunday against Topeka at 6 pm.

ROAD NUMBERS CLIMBING:The Amarillo Bulls have collected points in their last five road games and have notched five wins in their last seven (5-1-1 mark). Overall the Bulls have 15 road victories which rank fourth in the North American Hockey League. The Bulls are 13-1-2 on the road when leading after 40 minutes of play.

 

 STATS PACK: Bulls forward Zack Smoot has 11 points in his last eight games, including six in his last three games. As the Bulls shot per game continues to rise, so does their numbers each period this season. The Bulls have outshot their opponents in each period this season with more than 500 in total.

AMARILLO BULLS 3 – NEW MEXICO MUSTANGS 0:Goaltender Nikifor Szczerba kicked out all 26 shots he faced as the Bulls got multi-point games from Dan Sherer, Matt Johnson and Zack Smoot. Sherer potted two goals, while Smoot tallied a single marker. Johnson had three helpers while Smoot had two assists to go along with his goal.

 

AMARILLO BULLS 7 – CORPUS CHRISTI ICERAYS 3: Seven different goal scorers propelled the Bulls past the IceRays on Friday night in front of a crowd of nearly 3,000. Eric Millisor, Michael Erickson, Joe Kozlak, TJ Sarcona, Matt Johnson, Sean Keane and Dan Sherer notched goals. Dan McDougall had three assists while Smoot and Sherer each had two.

 

CORPUS CHRISTI ICERAYS 4, AMARILLO BULLS 3, SHOOTOUT:The Bulls dropped their first game in a shootout on home ice this season on Saturday night. Cody Freeman, Zack Smoot and Mitch Rogge got the goals. Goaltender Gregg Gruehl came on in relief of starter Nikifor Szczerba in the second period and played very well.
