Big Crowd Attends Bulls Awards Ceremony

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls concluded their Inaugural regular season on Saturday night by handing out various on-ice and off-ice trophies at their first awards ceremony.

 The Corral, at the Amarillo Civic Center, was bursting at the seams with a nearly capacity crowd who listened to speeches from Head Coach Dennis Williams, Assistant Coach Rocky Russo and General Manager Chris Laurie.

The following on-ice awards were presented: The Top Offensive Defenseman was Captain Derek Hills who led all Bulls rear-guards with 32 points. Forward Michael Erickson was presented with the Most Improved Player. Forward TJ Sarcona, who has been on fire offensively in recent games, was given the Best Defensive Forward.  Top Defensive Defenseman was Karl Beckman who had a plus 23 rating, which was among the top 10 in the NAHL. Beckman was also presented with the Humanitarian Award for his work in the community. The Top Forward was Zack Smoot who led the Bulls in points with 61 and assists with 37. The Coaches Award was co-presented to forwards Joe Kozlak and Mitch Rogge. Goaltender Nikifor Szczerba was given the Most Valuable Player Award. Szczerba notched 30 wins and appeard in 46 games for the Bulls this season.

There were several off-ice awards handed out and they included ICON Graphic Solutions being given the Corporate Partner Of The year. Barry Henson was awarded with Fan of The Year. Kevin Moon was selected as Volunteer of the Year, and the first Bulls’ Award was given to ‘Smokin’ Joe Bennett for his work in the locker room area.

Playoff hockey returns to the Texas Panhandle for the first time in three years on Thursday night when the Amarillo Bulls host the Texas Tornado at 7 pm at the Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. It’s the opening game of The Best-Of-Five Series. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Playoff Rally Towel. Game two will be played on Friday also at 7 pm.
