AMARILLO, TX – Over each of the last four years the Amarillo Bulls were regarded as one of the most potent teams with an offense that ranked near the top three in the North American Hockey League.
New Head Coach Jon Rogger bolstered the Bulls line-up for this fall by tendering forward Jake Slaker (pronounced Slay-kerr) for the 2014-15 season. Slaker spent the past season with Belle Tire Under 18 team (Detroit, Michigan based team) in the Tier I Elite League where he netted 16 goals and 22 assists for 38 points in 35 games.
“Jake is another special and dynamic player that was drafted by the Bloomington Thunder,” said Rogger. “Jake is a heck of a skater who can score and put up numbers.”
Rogger said Slaker will add more depth to the Bulls roster.
“If you look at the NHL right on down to junior hockey depth is what wins championships,” he said. “I remember when I was coaching with John Cooper and Green Bay and we won hockey games with our 3rd and 4th lines. We would put them out against anybody and you never knew when you were going to get that extra added offense from the unsung heroes.”
Slaker, a 5-10, 181 pound forward from San Diego, California is thrilled to join the Bulls.
“I think coming to Amarillo is a terrific opportunity for me to become a better hockey player,” he said. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about the organization and how great the South Division is. Amarillo is known for moving players on so I think it’s going to be a good step for my hockey career.”
Slaker, who becomes the second player tendered by the Bulls from the state of California (Elijiah Barriga), said his ultimate goal is to move on and get an NCAA College Commitment.
“I want to follow some of the best players in the world who are going to college and getting an education,” he said. “The hockey in California is getting bigger and better and I am proud to add to the number of players in junior hockey from the state.”
Jake Slaker, is the ninth player tendered by the Amarillo Bulls for the 2014-15 season joining forwards Jason Kowalczyk, Elijiah Barriga, JJ Huerena, Jesse MacIntyre, Ryan Walker, and Connor Wood, as well as defenseman Sean Giles, and goaltenders Jacob Weatherley, and Alec Derks.
