Bulls Finish Third at NAHL Showcase

story-325
BLAINE, MN – It had been six years since an Amarillo Bulls team had been in the hunt for the North American Hockey League’s Showcase title. That all changed this past weekend at the Schwann Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota as the Bulls posted a mark of 3-0-1 similar to that record in the 2011-12 season.
Amarillo dropped a 4-3 overtime decision on the final day to the Janesville Jets and had to play the waiting game to see where the team finished. The Lone Star Brahmas dealt the Bulls the first blow as they beat the Austin Bruins 3-2 in overtime to vault over the Bulls into first place and with a better goal differential. The Minot Minotauros were in position to win the whole event if they could wrap up the Showcase unbeaten and that’s what they did. Minot needed a five-round shootout to beat the Fairbanks Ice Dogs 4-3. In the end the Bulls wound up in third place behind the Brahmas and the Minotauros but just ahead of another unbeaten team the Brookings Blizzard.
It was a rough day for the South Division with the Lone Star Brahmas and the Topeka RoadRunners posting the lone wins on the day, while the Bulls and the Corpus Christi IceRays each managed a point. The updated South Division standings has the Bulls tied for first place with the Lone Star Brahmas each having 9 points. The Wichita Falls Wildcats are third with eight points, followed by the Odessa Jackalopes, Topeka RoadRunners and the Corpus Christi IceRays all with six points. The Shreveport Mudbugs have four points.
The Amarillo Bulls return to South Division next weekend with a pair of games in Topeka against the RoadRunners at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena. Fans can tune into the action on Friday and Saturday beginning with the Wayland Baptist University Warm Up Show at 6:40 pm. Denis J. Puska has the exciting call at 7 pm on CBS Sports Radio 1440, online at www.amarillobulls.com and on PPV with Fast Hockey.
